Adding VLANs to my Network

My homelab is out of control. It’s the main reason that I am starting this blog. Currently when I want to add to my homelab the process looks like this:

Add device / container / vm to the network.
Set it up and configure it.
Forget how I set it up and half remember how it links to the rest of my lab.
??????
Profit.

Something needs to change. My goal with this blog is to document the cleaning up and organisation of my homelab. Nothing here will be a tutorial, just a place for me to dump my projects so I have a rough idea of how things work. I will be creating a proper system for managing documentation in the future, it will probably be a blog post. By writing out each step in this clean up project, in blog format, I hope that it forces me to remember more about how my own lab operates, and have a public facing whiteboard for all my half thought out ideas of streamlining my setup.

Hi, I’m Luke. I work in IT. But after work I still like to suffer, so I have a homelab as well.

In truth I do actually enjoy messing around with computers, there’s something addictive about the dopamine hit you get from solving an issue you’ve been troubleshooting for hours (even if it’s a problem I created). This blog is just a public showcase of the random projects from my homelab. There is a vague theme throughout the blog, making the lab more manageable. It’s grown to be a bit of a mess, so as I clean it up I’ll be documenting the process here. Nothing here is a tutorial, just an account of the projects I’m doing. Don’t expect any amount of consistency when it comes to upload frequency, or even the quality of the posts. You’re welcome to poke around the site, and take a look at the posts, there isn’t much to see yet.
